Softball Rife with Key Matchups During Easter Weekend Slate The Easter weekend will be a big one for the eight Big West softball schools as important matchups dot the schedule nearing the midway point of conference play. League-leading Long Beach State, owners of a 5-1 mark in Big West play, packs its bags for a tough three-game conference set at #RV/#t-25 Cal Poly, which checks in the third weekend of conference play at 4-2. It’s a classic case of something’s gotta give as the 49ers are a combined 11-11 in road or neutral contests, while the Mustangs are an impressive 13-0 at home this season and have won 15 in a row at Bob Janssen Field dating back to last season. LBSU leads the all-time series by a 29-13 count, but was swept by Cal Poly in its previous trip to San Luis Obispo in 2007. The other 4-2 teams in Big West play are in action against one another this weekend as Cal State Fullerton heads north to take on UC Davis. The Titans/Aggies series stands at 9-3 in favor of CSF, but UCD went down to Anderson Family Field a year ago and took two out of three from Cal State Fullerton, an eventual NCAA participant. The site of UC Davis at home has been a rare one this season as the club has played only four home contests to this point due to weather issues earlier in the season. The Aggies have made the most of those four games at LaRue Field, going 4-0 in those opportunities. After losing three straight for just the second time this season, Cal State Northridge looks to get back to its winning ways with a road series at UC Santa Barbara. The Matadors have been road warriors this season, going a combined 15-10 in road or neutral contests. They will have to contend with a UCSB side that is coming off a Monday split against nationally-ranked Fresno State on the road and owns a 6-1 record at Campus Diamond. The final league matchup of the holiday weekend will take place in Northern California as UC Riverside heads to Stockton to take on Pacific. The Tigers have struggled at the start of Big West play, going 0-6 at the start of the conference schedule for the first time since 2006. They will look to snap that string against a UC Riverside program that has already toppled league stalwarts Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara this season. Pacific will also play one non-conference contest this week as the Tigers head to San Jose to take on San Jose State in a single game Tuesday afternoon.

BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK Rogers’ Bat Leads Cal Poly to Sweep over UCSB Cal Poly centerfielder Jessica Rogers (Santa Maria, Calif./Righetti HS) was a consistent offensive threat in the Mustangs’ home sweep of UC Santa Barbara last weekend, netting her Big West Player of the Week honors. The senior started the series with a 3-for-4 effort at the dish and scored run in Cal Poly’s 12-5 win. Rogers then followed that effort with another three hit outing in game two, knocking in three runs and scoring another run in the Mustangs’ 6-0 victory. Rogers then wrapped up the series with two hits in five at-bats and recorded a RBI in the 11-inning 6-5 Cal Poly win. For the week, Rogers batted .667 (8-12) with four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. She was also the only Mustang to post three multi-hit games in the series against UC Santa Barbara.
BIG WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK Turner Powers LBSU to Series Sweep over CSUN Long Beach State pitcher Brooke Turner (Buena Park, Calif./Kennedy HS) was dominant in her two starts over previous league unbeaten Cal State Northridge last weekend, resulting in Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. The sophomore opened up the series with a complete game four-hitter in a 6-2 win. She allowed two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out seven in the victory. Turner’s next start came in the finale of the three game set, another complete game victory. She scattered three hits, allowed one run (earned), walked three and struck out five for her 13th win of the season. In all, Turner posted a 1.50 ERA in her 14.0 innings, allowing just seven hits, three runs (all earned), five walks and striking out 12.

Release #10 BIG WEST NOTES
TURNER CONTINUES BIG WEST DOMINANCE
Long Beach State sophomore pitcher Brooke Turner has separated herself from the pack when it comes to pitching during league play. Her two wins over Cal State Northridge last weekend gave her a 3-0 record and a 1.52 ERA in 23.0 innings against Big West foes this season. In just under a year and a half of conference play, Turner is 15-0 with a 1.16 ERA in 109.0 IP and has struck out 103 batters. Outside of league play, Turner is also cementing herself as one of the top LBSU pitchers of all-time as she has already posted 342 strikeouts and already ranks 10th in school history in career victories with 40.
CAL POLY CONTINUES UNBEATEN RUN AT JANSSEN Cal Poly’s recent 13-game win streak might be over, but the Mustangs have another impressive streak still intact. The squad is unbeaten in 13 home contests this year and has won 15 straight home games dating back to last season. The 15-game unbeaten is a program record, while the 13 home wins posted by Cal Poly is tied for the most in the league this season.
UC DAVIS STAFF AMONG THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY With the NCAA rankings in their second week, the UC Davis pitching staff is ranked among the best units in the country. As a team, the Aggies rank fifth in the NCAA in team ERA at 1.08, just one of six teams to have a team ERA under 1.10 in the country. Individually, the UCD duo of Alex Holmes and Jessica Hancock is among the top in the country. Holmes ranks 14th in ERA at 1.03, while Hancock is 23rd at 1.19. They are just one of three teammates to rank in the top 25 of the NCAA rankings in individual ERA.
NEXT UP ON THE COACHING MILESTONES A week after Cal State Fullerton’s Michelle Gromacki won her 350th game, Cal Poly’s Jenny Condon moved up the coaching milestone ladder with her 150th victory after a sweep of rival UC Santa Barbara. UC Riverside’s Connie Miner stands just two wins shy of 100 at the school, which would make her the first coach in UCR’s Division I history to accomplish that feat. Cal State Northridge skipper Barbara Jordan stands just four wins shy of 200 wins at the helm of the programs and her career. In the extreme likelihood of her 200th win, Jordan would become just the 10th manager in Big West history to win that many games at a conference institution. Finally, with four more wins UC Davis head coach Karen Yoder will have amassed 100 victories at the school. Now in her fifth season at the helm of the program, Yoder guided UCD through its Division I reclassification and owns 242 wins over nine-plus seasons as a head coach at four-year schools.

Release #10 BIG WEST TEAM NOTES
• Cal Poly swept its conference series at home last weekend against UC Santa Barbara, upping its home win streak to 15 dating back to last season and sweeping the Gauchos for the first time in four years. Cal Poly won the games by 12-5, 6-0 and 6-5 (11) finals ... Big West Player of the Week Jessica Rogers batted . 667 (8-12) with four RBI and scored two runs to lead the Mustang offense in the series. She was the lone Cal Poly player to register multiple hits in all three games and had two games where she registered three base knocks ... Helen Peña had the best outing for Cal Poly in the circle, registering a six-hit shutout in the game two win. The blanking was the first for UCSB since March 24 and just the fourth time all year the squad had failed to score in a contest ... Anna Cahn’s 16 wins this season is the third-highest single season total in program history and the most since former star Robyn Kontra recorded 17 in 2005.
Cal State Fullerton TITANS • Cal State Fullerton took two out of three from UC Riverside on the road last weekend, splitting the first day doubleheader with a 6-2 win and a 2-1 (9) loss and winning the finale by a 4-0 count ... Lauren Lupinetti was a rock at the dish and in the field over the series, batting .500 (5-10) with a run scored and recording two multi-hit contests. She was also a perfect 14-for-14 in the field including throwing out three batters attempting to steal ... Ari Cervantes delivered two stellar performances in the circle, with both being complete game wins. She allowed five hits in each contest and totalled a 1.00 ERA in those 14.0 innings. Cervantes even added a RBI single in the game one win to help her own cause, igniting an eventual five-run inning for the Titans.
Cal State Northridge MATADORS • Cal State Northridge was swept on the road against Long Beach State, just the second three-game skid of the season for CSUN. The Matadors fell by 6-2, 3-2 and 6-1 scores against the 49ers ... The CSUN offense has struggled of late, scoring more than three runs on just one occasion since a 10-run outburst against Cal State Bakersfield on March 21 (a seven-game span). Despite the recent offensive struggles, Christina Saenz and Jaclyn Rymer have been solid offense threats. Saenz is batting .363 with 20 RBI and 33 hits, while Rymer is hitting at a .357 clip with 15 RBI, 35 hits and 24 runs scored. They are the lone pair of teammates to rank in the top five in hitting on the league leaderboard ... The Matador pitching staff is among the best in the Big West as the club has posted a 2.49 ERA in 233.1 innings of work. Debbie Duran is the workhorse of the staff, posting a 16-8 record to go along with a 1.96 ERA in 139.1 innings.
Long Beach State 49ERS • Long Beach State improved to 5-1 in conference play with a three-game sweep of previous league unbeaten Cal State Northridge. LBSU took the series with 6-2, 3-2 and 6-1 finals ... Danielle Linke had a hot bat at the plate with a .500 (5-10) batting average, two RBI, a run scored , a double and a triple. She posted two multi-hit games over the weekend and registered her fourth three-hit game of the season in the rubber game. Linke’s four three-hit games accounts for nearly half of the team’s total (9) ... Big West Pitcher of the Week Brooke Turner continued her mastry of league opposition, going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 14.0 innings. The sophomore allowed only seven hits and three runs in her two starts against the Matadors and won her 40th career game in the finale.
UC Davis AGGIES • UC Davis swept its home series against Pacific last weekend, registering the first sweep of a Big West conference opponent in the program’s DI history. UCD claimed 1-0, 7-1 and 5-4 victories in the historic home sweep ... Belinda Paine batted .500 (4-8) with a RBI, three runs scored, walked twice and stole two bases in her leadoff role for the Aggie offense. Paine registered one two-hit game and extended her hitting streak to 15, the longest current string in the league and tied for the longest this season ... Alex Holmes was stellar in the circle, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.40 ERA in 10.0 innings. She allowed just 10 hits, two runs and struck out eight in her two appearances, which included a four-inning relief stint in game three.
UC Riverside HIGHLANDERS • UC Riverside fell in two out of three games last weekend at home against Cal State Fullerton, falling to 2-4 against Big West foes. The Highlanders lost game one 6-2, then bounced back with a grueling 2-1, nine-inning win in game two. UCR then fell in the finale by a 4-0 count ... The Highlander offense struggled with only four runs in the series and a .169 batting average, but Brittany Kenney and Krystal Marquez had solid weekends at the plate with .375 and .333 averages, respectively ... Stephanie Marshall continued her fine pitching of late with a 1-1 record and 2.62 ERA in 10.2 innings against the Titans. Marshall is 1-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 16.2 innings of conference action so far this season.
UC Santa Barbara GAUCHOS • UC Santa Barbara was swept by Cal Poly for the first time in four years last weekend, dropping the road contests by 12-5, 6-0 and 6-5 (11) scores ... Christine Ramos batted .500 (6-12) with a RBI and a run scored in the series, while Amanda Ziegler scored three runs and added a pair of RBI. Ramos is now batting .409 (9-22) in conference play with three RBI and has not struck out in 22 at-bats against Big West foes ... MeLinda Matsumoto had some bad luck in the circle, going 0-1 in her two appearances but posting a 2.68 ERA. Matsumoto allowed 14 runs in her 15.2 innings, but only six were earned ... The Gauchos were shut out for just the fourth time this season in game two, but still rank third in the Big West in runs scored with 156 and rank second in batting at .292.
Pacific TIGERS • Pacific was swept on the road against UC Davis last weekend, falling by scores of 1-0, 7-1 and 5-4. The Tigers also dropped a weekday game to RV/#t-22 Fresno State by a 3-0 count ...
