elcome to what promises to be an exciting and fruitful 2014-2015 academic year. CETL has always existed within an environment of dynamic change and will continue to represent the many interests of the members of our college community. This annual Professional Development Calendar serves as the foundation of the college’s Professional Development Plan, offering learning opportunities, training, unique opportunities to connect with other professional colleagues, and access to services for employees across the college. As a part of our mission to foster change and improvements, over the past year the CETL team have been engaged in many of the institutional change projects taking place including new Academic Calendars, IBPS, VDI, Blackboard upgrades, Quality Matters, Workday, WTCS certification changes, Contract Alternatives, Shared Governance, as well as many internal changes to our department operations. Much of this work will begin to bear fruit over the coming year. As change moves into our environment CETL will continue to provide support for you to understand, cope, succeed and thrive in this complex working environment. Some specific CETL projects mentioned in this Calendar which you may want to take note of include: • Changes to the physical CETL offices coming in 2015; including an improved training room space, more office space for CETL team members, more open space for faculty collaboration, and a new space for PT faculty to hold confidential meeting with students. • The presentation of several major regional and national workshops including the Flexible Learning Conference (together with SOAL), On Course National Workshops, WILLD Dyslexia Workshops for faculty and staff, continuation of the Art of Conflict Transformation, and others. • The development and sustaining of Faculty Learning Communities in which to become involved. • New CETL Fellow opportunities and appointments. • Changes to the CETL staffing plan that include expanded responsibilities and new opportunities. • Prospective major changes to the WTCS Faculty Certification System leading to new learning experiences. • Enhancements to Orientation and Faculty mentoring programs. • Improvements to the CETL data base including connections to new certification responsibilities and a “professional development plan” option that will allow you to create your plan and save it in your account. • Enhancements to convocation planning as we end the practice of Mid-Semester Convocation. Through all of these changes and more the CETL team stands ready to support you in your work in the classrooms, labs, shops or offices you use to impact student success. We all wish you great success as the year unfolds. Remember to call on us when we can be of help. Contact CETL at 246-6646 or

Microsoft Office Training A basic introduction to commonly-used programs in Microsoft Office 2010, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Access. Most online courses run for 4 weeks. You will be expected to devote 60 to 90 minutes of your time each week to complete the weekly modules. TelePresence Training TelePresence is a distance education tool pioneered by the faculty of Madison College. This training is required of any faculty who will teach in a TelePresence classroom. The training covers both technical and pedagogical aspects of the room. Find more information about these classrooms at http://madisoncollege.edu/in/telepresence-services. Screencasting / Video Creation In this series of workshops, you’ll learn to utilize several screen-capture and video editing programs, including Camtasia for PC and Mac, Blackboard Collaborate, Windows Movie Maker and mobile devices. When registering for the Screencasting sessions, make sure to register for the PC or Mac version of the workshop. ADA Accessibility Training In this series, you’ll learn how to check Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Outlook emails for ADA accessibility and use simple steps to make them ADA-compliant. Workshops will be offered on PC and Mac versions of MS Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Most online courses run for 2 weeks. iOS Devices and Apps Join Apple Foundations Trainer Alan Natachu in unlocking the secrets of iOS devices and apps. These day-long workshops explore everything from the basic anatomy of an iOS device to advanced apps. The iLife and iWork sessions will show you how to create content for your club, department, course or other organization. Faculty, staff, administrators and student club organizations are welcome and encouraged to attend. NOTE: At least 5 participants need to be registered for this session 3 days before start date or the session will be canceled. Advanced/Interactive PowerPoints You’ve used PowerPoint to create presentations, but there is so much more you can do with this tool! These sessions cover creating an interactive presentation and using the voiceover narration tool in PowerPoint. You’ll learn how to record your voice in a PowerPoint and the equipment and computer setup needed to do so. You’ll also learn how to embed a presentation in Blackboard using Microsoft’s OneDrive service.

REGISTER ONLINE
http://cetl.madisoncollege.edu/registration/ How do I register for a CETL course? All employees and guests must register via the CETL registration web site (link above). There are clear directions and prompts throughout the site to assist you with the process.
How Do I Find the CETL Registration site? From the Madison College home page, following these links:
1. Faculty/Staff (top of page) 2. College Organization (left navigation) 3. CETL (left navigation) 4. Register for CETL Events (page center) 5. Sign in using your Network ID and password (only for your initial log in, then you will change your password)
Registration Process 1. Determine courses for which you wish to register by consulting this calendar, our News Blast, or by consulting the online calendar. Be sure to note the course number and course type if listed. 2. At the sign-in page, use your Madison College Network ID (the same one you use for email and Blackboard) to sign into our system. 3. Once you successfully log in, you will see the main menu (top left). From there, select “Register for a Course or Session.” 4. Next you will see a screen with your contact information. Below that you will be prompted to select a Course Type (for example “WTCS Certification”). Once a Course Type is selected, a list of courses will populate on the screen. 5. Choose from this list using your mouse to check the box on the left-most column for the course you wish to take. Be sure to double check the Course Title, number, dates, and location. 6. Select “Register” on the bottom left of the screen to complete the process. 7. You will see a confirmation screen. Please print this confirmation for your records. This message will also be sent to your Madison College email address. 8. Should you wish to un-register yourself, you may do so by selecting the “Un-Register” link from the main menu. Nearly the exact same steps will be taken to un-register for a course. You will, however, be unable to un-register for a course that has already begun. 9. Approximately one week prior to the course start, you should receive a communication from CETL about the course along with a confirmation. 13

New in CETL! Professional Development Plan Tool This long overdue new addition to the lineup of CETL services is a major step in completing the Continuous Improvement cycle. The Professional Development Planning (PDP) tool completes the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle that our college has been seeking as it relates to employees. Now every employee has access to this planning tool which allows you to create goals, add activities, update, and print out your individual PDP any time you need to. It will automatically check off PD completed experiences related to your goals based on key words. Finally, it allows for annual planning that clearly connects to College, School, and Department goals. The PDP tool will become the centerpiece of Add a goal each employee’s journey through their career at Madison College. “What’s New in CETL” Web Page
With all printed documents, a hard fact we face is the minute it is printed, it is out of date. This year we decided to take a step to inform our customers of what is new and changed in this document. We’ve created a web site to do this.
